CANINE BEHAVIOR

Canine (Dog) Behavior
All dogs – purebreds and mixes – demonstrate almost similar dogs’ (canine) performance of behavior pattern. Dogs are predators with organization of body intended to hunt, pursue, kill and destroy his hunting extraction for the food. The jobs done by dogs have largely disappeared or have been replaced by careers as pets or participants in a variety of sports or service jobs, but canine predatory instincts are alive and well. The onset and ultimate conclusion or interruption of predatory behaviors follows breed-specific patterns developed and fine-tuned by genetic selection and training. However, these instincts are part of the whole dog repertoire, a fact that prudent owners keep in mind when dealing with a pet dog and choosing a new breed or mix to add to the household.
Size, color, coat type, activity level, and trainability are all incidental to these characteristics. Bulldog or Poodle, Labrador or Maltese Dog, Boxer or Pug Dog – any of them is a hunter and predator by canine nature. Progress of predatory manners varies with different personality dogs like among different dog breeds. Few dogs of herding breeds demonstrate slight or no talent for the job; however others seem had born to the task. Some mature dogs are friendly with cats; others – perceive any cats as prey.
Various dog breeds could demonstrate particular skills and special abilities of their behaviors. For example: high and fearless force to protect the human (owner), amazing tracking by smell capability, an insatiable desire to run, fierceness and anger in the face of danger, a increased sense of territory protection, or an mysterious aptitude to round up any livestock, like sheep or goats.
Now we are distinguished the dogs by different groups based on these individualities:
1. Sporting dogs are those that hunt and retrieve game birds;
2. Hounds track mammals by scent;
3. Terriers dig into vermin dens; and herding dogs help farmers move sheep and cattle.
4. Working dog group includes breeds that guard livestock and territory, pull carts and sleds, and serve man in a variety of jobs. Herding breeds, especially those without livestock to work, will stalk, circle, gather, and drive children, a habit that makes it tough for kids to have friends over to play.
5. The toy breeds had careers – they were companions, bed-warmers, mousers, and flea-magnets in royal castles and mansions throughout the world.
6. The non-sporting group is the only one without a common thread, but most of these dogs had jobs in the past: Schipperkes were watchdogs and vermin-dispatchers on barges and in shops;
7. Bulldogs helped butchers control cattle;
8. Dalmatians guarded coaches and horses;
9. Poodles, Finish Spitz, and Shiba Inus were hunting dogs;
10. Lhasa Apsos warned Tibetan monks of approaching strangers.

Not many dogs have actual job at this time days, however numerous retained instincts that served dogs and humans in the earlier times. Dog clubs and dogs breeders concern to keep and increase these skills. They organize championships, tournaments, tests and competitions to conclude does the instinct still exist; and how it could be refined for top performance.
Puppy owner can evaluate the possible prey for drive by study of puppy play. If rolling balls, noisy toys, birds, butterflies, or other items dragged on the floor obtain puppy’s stalking, chasing, pouncing, and biting from puppies; you have a chances that your puppy could pursue everything that move and will transmit this behavior into adulthood.
If the model of puppy’s behavior begins early, it may be rough to train the pup to keep the neighborhood cat, ferret or Guinea pig is unavailable to pursue. If this behavior begins later, when the pup will learn to recognize another pet in the home, he might be a danger to wild animals and cats. All puppies reveal predatory instincts, but a few dog breeds and dog persons have an extra amount. For example a Border Collies are disreputable for their work oriented personality that contains the orient, watch, trail, and pursue run. Or hounds intended to track and run down quarry; Terriers prepared to hunt and kill vermin; herding breeds of dogs make efforts to nip or nudge livestock; and hunting dogs breeds used to deal with prey drive that make this dog inconvenient for owner who has not enough time, circumstances, or willing to provide appropriate socialization and exercise.
Dogs with a predator’s behavior that includes bite and grab easily could frustrate a games of catch to batting perform in your backyard. Predator’s behaviors cannot be erased if they are recognized, but damage of canine behavior can be lower after training or by removing the dog from the backyard.

Dogs with an elevated level of canine predatory behavior need to have training, especially if the family with a small children or/and other household pet. Since puppies, these dogs stalk, chase, and bite everything like floppy slippers, ankles, hands, blankets, pant legs, and dolls, or stuffed toys moved around by your family members or guests. When become adults, these dogs may harm or slay other pet and local wildlife, together with the neighbor’s loving feline or the nest with baby bunnies in your garden.

We love our dogs with any behavior, but please remember, that we are responsible for them.
